A Case to Answer

>A Training Resource for Occupational Health & Safety in Assessment, Case Management &/or Brokerage Services.

Training Package Overview

"A Case to Answer" is a training package for organisations specialising in assessment, case management and/or brokerage services. The training focuses on Occupational Health and Safety issues through observing a day in the life of Molly Brown, an inexperienced case manager. Molly gets “instructions” from her manager before setting out to find the premises of the client. This simple task soon turns into a nightmare for Molly and she arrives at the residence quite flustered. Unfortunately the situation gets worse as the interview with the client does not go to plan and the unwanted attention from the unexpected boarder only adds to Molly’s state. She leaves the residence without achieving her goal and with quite a strained back from attempting to assist the client after he stumbled. Back at the office Molly gets no sympathy or assistance from her colleagues nor her manager during the debrief. Molly’s day has gone from one of enthusiasm to one of despair and frustration.

Training Objectives

At the conclusion of this training participants will:

  • Understand the key elements of a sound OH&S program for case managers, care organisations and organisations involved with community assessments.
  • Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions relating to a referral scenario involving an inexperienced case manager.
  • Relate the OH&S issues raised through the training to their situation.
  • Determine any safety improvement issues required in their OH&S program.

Training Methodology

Each scene in the DVD/video contains a number of OH&S issues for discussion. Some of these are OH&S compliance issues that the organisation should have addressed. Other OH&S issues are to do with the workplace environment and practises within the workplace. Workplace trainers can use these issues to generate a range of learning outcomes through group discussion; role plays; syndicate work and individual and organisational action plans.
