Care Connect’s priority is the safety of our clients. Care Connect has robust systems and processes in place to monitor and detect any unusual activity on client invoices for all third-party services. If unusual activity has been identified, Care Connect promptly disputes these transactions.
While we monitor all charges, there are a few things you may also want to do to help you protect yourself from fraud. Below are some examples of steps you can take when using Cabcharge:
Before the Ride:
- Call the hotlines of 13cabs or a preferred taxi company and use a different taxi driver with each trip
- Check the Meter – Ensure the taxi has a working meter before starting the trip. Do not agree to a fixed fare.
- Know the Route – If you have maps on your phone you can check the route before you go, and even in the taxi, to avoid unnecessary detours
During the Ride:
- Monitor the Meter – Check the meter starts at the base fare and is running correctly. If there are any sudden jumps in price you are entitled to ask about them.
- Avoid Cash-Only Scams – Confirm that the taxi will accept Cabcharge cards before the trip begins. Be cautious if the driver claims the card machine is broken and consider getting another taxi.
- Hold on to your Cabcharge card until it’s time to pay, and tap the machine yourself.
After the Ride:
- Ask for a Receipt – A printed receipt helps in case of disputes or reporting fraud
- Double-Check the Fare – If you’re overcharged, question the driver or report it to Care Connect
- Be Cautious of Fake Payment Terminals – If paying by card, ensure the machine covers the correct fare. If the Cabcharge card is declined, the driver should use a manual method to bill Cabcharge/Care Connect. You should not be paying with cash
If you have any concerns about a trip, please contact your Care Manager. But rest assured, Care Connect’s robust processes identify any potentially invalid changes, so if there are any problems we’ll catch them.
