More than a week on from the tragic events in Bondi, the impact continues to be felt across our community. We are sharing this message now because we recognise that grief does not end with the passing of time; for many, the shock, sadness, and distress remain.
We continue to hold deep respect for the courage and professionalism of emergency services, healthcare workers, and first responders who acted in confronting and dangerous circumstances. The emotional toll of this tragedy is enduring and felt not only by those directly involved, but also by families, carers, and communities across Australia.
We also acknowledge our own staff. Among them are people of the Jewish faith and others with close ties to Jewish communities who have been personally affected by this violence. We recognise the courage it takes to continue showing up each day to support our clients and one another while also carrying their own grief, fear, and concern. Their compassion and professionalism reflect the very best of who we are as an organisation.
As a not-for-profit provider supporting older people to live safely and with dignity, we know that acts of violence can have a lasting impact – creating fear, anxiety, and a sense of uncertainty well beyond the immediate aftermath. The effects reach far beyond the location of the event.
We stand firmly against all forms of violence, hatred, racism, and antisemitism. Respect for every person and the courage to care for one another in difficult times are central to who we are and how we work.
We encourage anyone who is feeling unsettled or distressed to seek support and to check in on those around them. Looking after one another, especially those who may feel isolated, matters greatly at times like this.
Our thoughts remain with all those whose lives have been changed by this devastating event.
