What is a Home Care Package?

More than 70% of Australia’s elderly population would prefer to live at home rather than move into an aged care facility.

For this reason, the Australian government has recognised the need to help subsidise in home care services, in which a Home Care Package allows you to remain at home.

Home Care Packages will differ depending on your daily living needs and are subject to approval by an Aged Care Assessment Team. Services provided include home care, personal care, medical assistance, home nursing, shopping assistance, in-home respite care, garden and home maintenance, mobility aids and equipment, social and recreational activities and more.

This is what you need to know about home care packages:

  • What can the home care package offer you?

There are various Home Care Package levels available depending on your individual situation and needs to help you stay living in your own home. Four levels of a Home Care Package are designed to cover: Basic care, Low-level care, Intermediate care and High-Level care. If you on a part pension or are a self funded retiree, you may be required to pay an income tested fee contribution towards your Home Care Package which is determined by Centrelink.
